FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Can I accumulate winnings to save on postage?
Yes! You're welcome to accumulate wins for up to 2 weeks. U.S. shipping charge is $3.00 for 2 or more records (or comic books). All I ask is that when you pay, enclose a detailed note with the name and item number of each item you're paying for. You will receive my standard notification for each win. This is for my own record keeping and you can disregard the shipping charge asked for in each case.
Why do you charge as much as $3.00 postage when it costs less than that to mail a record or comic book?
In addition to the actual postage it costs to ship an order, I pay 55c to $1.10 for the appropriate box and packing materials, plus more than $50 a month for postage meter rental and supplies (3 ink cartridges cost around $100!) Without a postage meter I couldn't operate since I ship out 10 to 20 parcels a day.
Why don't you inform winners when their payment arrives and when their packages ship?
I try to ship out all orders within 24 hours of receiving payment. THIS WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE if I had to spend time informing people every step of the way. Trust that your payment will arrive in 3 to 4 business days and that your order will ship the following day. If I don't receive payment within 3 weeks you'll receive a second notice.
What is you policy regarding Feedback?
The only way I've been able to deal with giving feedback without having it significantly cut into my order filling and listing time is to go down my feedback list once or twice a week and return all new feedback all at once. In other words, I don't ever initiate feedback. But if you give Steal-a-Record positive feedback, that feedback WILL be returned within the week.
How do you ship your records and comic books?
Within the U.S., LPs are generally shipped out 4th class mail (which can take 3 days to 3 weeks...it's totally unpredictable...but it's ultimately cheap and reliable). One or two 45s or comic books are shipped First Class. I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE EVERYTHING so no extra insurance payment is required of you.
HOW I GRADE RECORDS. I receive twenty letters praising my grading for each one complaining about it. Records are graded visually, and occasionally a dud slips through, but I try to grade conservatively to avoid surprises. Here's what the LP grades mean.
SS = Still Sealed.
M = Mint. Appears never to have been played.
M- = Mint- or Near Mint. No serious wear but it may have been played. Should sound pretty much
like a new record (for better or worse).
VG++ = Something about the record prevented it from getting a M-. A scuff
? Very slight signs of wear? You won't know till you get it, but it shouldn't
detract much from your enjoyment of the music.
VG+ = A record in very good shape, though there will be noticeable, and probably somewhat audible wear.
VG = More serious wear. Surface noise for sure. Recommended for those not
too fussy about sound, or to fill a gap in a collection at a price that's
affordable.
VG- = Very serious wear. I wouldn't put it in my collection, but people have won VG- records and sent me thank you letters! (Sometimes these things sound better than they look.) I say, strictly for bargain hunters.
G, F, P = Good, Fair or Poor. Really very worn...but note! I won't list it
if I believe it's absolutely unplayable. If it's something you're desperate
for, you might want to take a shot, since...
